30 Day Harry Potter Challenge - Day 4: Least fave female character and why.

Dolores Jane Umbridge.

There is something so evil about someone who thinks they are doing good, when really what they are doing is completely warped, twisted, and wrong on every level. I mean, Hitler, somewhere in his deeply depraved-of-sanity mind, thought he was doing the right thing. He thought the Jews were a dog-race that needed to be eliminated, because they somehow the reason he didn’t get into art school. (<—True story) In Hunchback of Notre Dame, Frollo somehow believes that his persecution of gypsies is somehow godly and acceptable. Where that train of thought came from and lost its way, I’m not sure.

But it’s similar with Umbridge. She honestly believes she is doing the right thing. Using cruel and unusual punishment that literally leaves Harry with a scar for a stupid reason. Spying for the corrupt leader and enforcing all kinds of ridiculous laws to prevent any revolutionary talk from spreading. Attempt to brainwash school-age children to believe nothing is ever wrong ever, Dumbledore is a bad influence on them, Harry’s lying, and the ministry will take care of them. Firing teachers for personal reasons of prejudice. Going on to “inspect” the muggle-borns, call them liars and thieves, persecute them unjustly, take away their wands. Treat anything other than a human like a dog or an animal that needs to be contained and controlled.

Ooh. Ooh. And so much more. She’s awful.

And the reason she’s worse than someone like Bellatrix, is because I do believe Bellatrix knows what she’s doing is wrong. She knows she evil, and revels in it. While Umbridge believes that everything she is doing will better herself and her little world.
